What is Afterschool?

YMCA Afterschool is a carefully designed program that provides an enriching experience for your child.  Every day, your child will be provided sufficient quiet time to complete their homework, with plenty of assistance available.  You can depend on the Y to provide healthy snacks and education on proper nutrition.  YMCA Afterschool, in conjunction with Activate America, makes learning about health a part of the daily curriculum.  And, along with proper nutrition, the Y provides your child with fun, physical activity to keep them strong as well as learning new skills.  We encourage each child to get a minimum of 30 minutes of activity every day.

Middle schoolers may be interested in weight training or using the exercise equipment.  We will train them in proper use and they can take advantage of our Wellness facility while in Afterschool care.  There are also arts, science, and literacy components to our program.  A well-rounded child is happier and better prepared for life.  Every day is precious.  The time your child spends after school is important.  At Y Afterschool, your child will learn leadership skills and to incorporate the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into their play, learning and social activities.

Program Information

Programming runs from school dismissla until 6:00PM, Monday through Friday and operates from 7:30AM until 6:00PM on teacher workdays and most holidays (special rates apply during Winter and Spring Break).  We provide transportation at dismissal to the YMCA from the following schools:  Sara Collins, Thomas E. Kearns, Stone Academy, East North Street Academy, Augusta Circle, Sterling School, Hughes Academy, Beck Academy, and League Academy.  We also offer an on-site program at Blythe Academy.

What is the difference between Afterschool at Blythe and the YMCA?  Location, location, location.  Children enrolled in the YMCA/Blythe Afterschool  program have the convenience of never leaving school grounds.  When school is dismissed, those that are registered for Afterschool will meet in the Afterschool classroom and immediately begin their homework.  YMCA/Blythe Afterschool has the convenience of using Blythe Elementary facilities, including computer lab, gymansium, and playground.
