Active Older Adults

Active Older Adult Programs

Fit for Life:  This class is designed for active older adults.  It is a low impact workout that combines low impact cardio with some conditioning.  Beginning exercisers are welcome.

Silver Sneakers I:  Range of motion and strengthening class for inactive older adults.  Class uses chairs, bands, balls, and dumbbells. 

Silver Sneakers II:  Strength and cardio intervals for the active older adult.  Must be able to stand at least 30 minutes.

Silver Sneakers Yoga Stretch:  A gentle yoga class that uses a chair.  There is no mat in this class.  Shoe friendly

Arthritis Aquatic Class:  This class is for those with arthritis or other physical limitations.  We focus on range of motion in all major joints, strengthening major and minor muscle groups and water walking.

Senior Water Exercise:  A change of pace for our active older members.  This class allows you to workout at your own pace.  It is a great way to strengthen your spirit, mind and body.

Swim Lessons

It is never too early or late to start swim lessons.  The Eastside Family YMCA offers swim lessons for children and adults of all ages and abilities, from the timid beginner to the advanced level swimmer.  In this program the YMCA teaches not only basic swimming skills, but also skills that will allow participants to enjoy a variety of aquatic activities throughout their lives.  We teach the basic fundamentals of swimming, stroke refinement, and personal safety.  Our ultimate goal is not only teaching you and your child how to swim, but to build confidence in everyone's swimming abilities and to develop the whole person - spirit, mind and body.  It's what make us different from any other exercise facility.
 

Sign up begin May 16 for members for June swim lessons.  Come see all the great changes that have been made to our swim lessons.

Do you need some personal instruction?  We offer private and semi-private swim lessons for ages 3 and up.  

  • Private lessons:  Members - $25.00 per half hour // Non-members - $35.00 per half hour 
  • Semi - Private lessons:  Members - $15.00 per person per half hour // Non-members - $25.00 per person per half hour.
  • Private lessons and semi-private swim lessons must be purchased in groups of four.

Water Fitness

Whether you're looking to branch out of your regular exercise routine, or have never exercised before, we have a class to fit your needs.  Water Fitness encourages people to use the buoyant qualities of water to enhance their physical fitness through exercises in the pool.  Water can make some movements possible that would be very difficult on land.  It is an ideal form of exercise for all fitness levels and increases physical strength and endurance without putting stress and strain on joints--as in land based exercise.  Swimmers and non swimmers alike can take part in this type of exercise to reduce emotional stress and tension, improve health and physical appearance, and encourage and improve feelings of well being and self-esteem.
 
Classes offered:  Shallow Water, Senior Water Fitness, Stretch and Flex, Move and Flex, Deep Water and Combo.  Please see the current water fitness schedule for class details, days and times.

Get Connected

Volleyball – Adult Pick - Up

Open to members.  Come join us for open play volleyball games every Tuesday at 7:30 PM and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM.  You must be 16 years or older to play.  (All games are pick-up setting.)

Masters

Open to members.  Our Adult Wave is a great program for athletes training for triathlons, as it can effectively improve speed and efficiency.  It also provides a difficult yet motivating workout for competitive swimmers of all levels.  There is an instructor who takes you through each workout and helps with technique.  Classes are held on Mondays at 6:00 AM, Tuesdays at 8:15 AM and Thursdays at 8:15 AM.
