Saw a class that sounds interesting but not sure what it entails? This glossary of classes will help you pick the right class for your fitness needs, abilities, and goals. Not all classes are available at all branches. Be sure to check your branch's group exercise schedule.

TRX group classes

TRX Strength & Core: Build muscle and support a healthy body with this essential TRX strength workout. We begin with basic exercises and show you how to scale them to make them as challenging as you can handle.

TRX Bootcamp: A complete workout with boot camp style exercises with the multi-function
of the TRX training station. You'll work your entire body and challenge your core.

TRX Cardio Circuit: Get your blood pumping with this TRX circuit class that will utilize other equipment along with the suspension trainers to obtain maximum anaerobic results. There will be sweat.

TRX Flow: Challenge yourself with a little flow, rhythm, balance and a lot of TRX suspension. Build real strength and tone like never before in your arms, shoulders, back, derriere, and legs. After a few sessions of TRX Flow, you will emerge re-formed. An understaning of mat Pilates is helpful, but all you need to bring is your bare feet.

Cardio Classes

20/20/20: A class split into three 20-minute sections. A typical class consists of 20 minutes of aerobics, 20 minutes of weightlifting or step and 20 minutes of pilates, yoga, or other format. This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

Smash Up: Similar to 20/20/20 but more advanced, Smash Up gets in a little bit of everything. A little weightlifting, a little BODYCOMBAT,  some step, and pilates. This class is good for an athlete wanting to sample all the group exercise classes. 

Cardio Step: This fast-paced, choreographed step class is designed for people ready for anSpin class is one of the Y's most popular group exercise classesintermediate or advanced challenge.  Some of the routines will combine weights with step.

Les Mills' BODY COMBAT: This cardio workout with leave you sweaty and exhilarated. The class uses choreographed martial arts moves to a pumping soundtrack.

Step Explosion: An intense step class choreographed to pumping music. This step class is recommended for intermediate steppers.

Cycle:  These choreographed stationary bike classes use music to help you power through a cardio workout. Cycle classes are among our most popular, so call your branch the night before and arrive on time to reserve your bike! New to cycling? Get to class early for help setting up your bike.

Zumba fitness classes are a great way to get or stay in shape and make new friendsZumba Fitness: This workout will get you moving and get you smiling. Inspired by Latin dances, Zumba is a total body cardio workout. But it feels like a party.

Zumba Gold: This Zumba workout is designed for older people and beginners.

Zumba 4 All: Make Zumba a family affair. Kids 7 and up are invited to try this dance workout with their parents.

Walk to Run:  A class designed to turn couch potatoes into runners ready for their first 5K.

Boot Camp: Forget the snooze button! Get up before the sun and get an intense workout led by a trainer. The class is designed for all levels and can be modified to fit your fitness level.


Toning classes

Group Pump: This class will help you increase strength of all major muscle groups. Barbells, dumbbells, and bands are used to help you define the muscles in your upper and lower body.

Group Rx Ripped: This is a weightlifting class that is choreographed. How's that for powering through a set?

Super Sculpt: A strength and conditioning class that will work all your major muscle groups using a variety of equipment.

Strength Plus: Need to add strength? This class is for you. Instructors take you through a workout using barbells, handweights, free weights, bands, and more.

Strength Plus Kettlebells: Like strength plus? This version adds kettlebells to the mix.

Circuit Plus: A total body workout using stations to combine cardio, strength training, and core work.

Kettlebell Training: Traditional kettlebell exercises use the entire body for a great total-body workout. This class is great for people who are fit and looking for a different kind of challenge.

Intense Fit: This class combines strength training sets with cardio intervals. As the name implies, this workout is intense.

I-Fit: This is the Intense Fit class for beginners looking for a total body workout. The I-Fit class gives a total-body workout at your own pace.

Intense Intervals: Looking to add interval training? This guided intervals class will get your blood and sweat moving!

Step & Sculpt:  An intermediate level step class that includes weights and some intervals toward the end of class.


Mind & Body classes

Exercise your mind as well as your body. Please do not be late for these classes. Yoga and pilates can strengthen your core and add balance to your exercise routine.

Yoga: Yoga has been shown to help tone muscles and tone down your stress. Learn the basic yoga postures to develop strength, balance, and flexibility.

Gentle Yoga: This class is perfect for beginners or those with injuries or other special considerations.

Pilates: Stretch and condition your core and improve your flexibility. Piltates is appropriate for all levels and is a great workout for the lower back, abs and legs.

Pilates II: Need a more challenging core workout? Try Pilates II. Beginners should not start in this class.

Yoga/Pilates: A little bit of yoga, a little bit of pilates. A good class for toning and increasing flexibility.

Core 30: You're only as strong as your core. This 30-minute workout works your abs and back muscles with both standing and mat exercises.

Tai Chi: This martial art emphasizes slow and fluid movements and is good for seniors or anyone wanting a unique workout experience.


Workout classes for seniors

Fit for Life: This class is designed for active older adults. Doctors often recommend seniors' exercise classes at the Y.It's a low-impact workout combining cardio and conditioning. Beginners are welcome.

SilverSneakers MSROM:MSROM stands for Muscular Strength and Range Of Motion. This fun class is designed to increase strength and range of movement. Hand-held weights, tubing, balls, and chairs are used for seated and standing exercises.

SilverSneakers Cardio Circuit: This class for seniors is a fun cardiovascular and muscle power workout. You must be able to stand for a minimum of 30 minutes to be in this class.

SilverSneakers YogaStretch: A gentle yoga class that uses a chair for balance.

Senior Aerobics:  A total body aerobic workout for the over-50 set.


Fitness classes for kids

At the Y, we're serious about our youth and fitness

Fit kids: Youth and fitness go together at the Y! A workout designed with kids in mind. Sometimes it's inside, sometimes it's outside. It's always fun. Tennis shoes are required.

Zumbatomic: Finally! A Zumba class for kids. Zumbatomic is open to kids 8-12 only.

 

 

 

 

Water Fitness classes

Aquaerobics: Get energized with this invigorating workout. This is a shallow water class; however, those who are comfortable in deeper water can do some of the class in transitional water depth. Resistive and boyant equipment are used to increase the cardio and strength components of the class. Beginners welcome!

Aqua Power: This is a high-energy deep-water class where buoyant and resistive equipment assist in a cardio workout with no impact on joints. Aqua Power is open to all fitness levels, but participants need to be able to swim and be comfortable in deep water.

Aqua Zumba: You love the pool. You love Zumba. You'll love Aqua Zumba. Doing the moves in the water gives some added resistance to the exercise. You probably want to wear water shoes to help with the quick changes in direction and pace.

Circle of Hope: A class for people battling cancer and cancer survivors. The fun and functional fitness helps regain muscle strength, balance, and flexibility as well as cardiovascular endurance.

H20 Combo: Strengthen and tone muscles and work on improving endurance in this hydroworkout. Portions of the class occur in both the shallow and deep ends of the pool.

Hydro Cycle: All the benefits of a cycle class, but none of the stress on knee and hip joints. The water's buoyancy will keep you comfortable, and the water's resistance will make you work.

Hydro Tone: A moderate-intensity class that provides gentle motion and exercises to increase flexibility, range of motion, muscle strength, endurance, and balance. This class is done in chest-deep water and is a good entry level water fitness class.

Water Boot Camp:  This challenging and vigorous class is a total body workout using a variety of equipment such as fins, HydroRider bikes, and kickboards. You have to be able to swim for this class, since it's in the deep end of the pool.

Water Works:  This medium-level muscle-toning and cardio class class is done mostly in the shallow end of the pool with resistive equipment.
