Who We Are
What We DoLiveWell Greenville brings community partners and individuals together to shepherd positive initiatives such as creating safe places to bike and walk, healthier foods in schools and workplaces, nutritious snacks in child care centers, and better access to parks, to name a few. Where We WorkLiveWell Greenville partners focus their efforts in seven key areas: Access to healthy foods, healthcare in schools, before and after school child care at the workplace, physical activity and recreation, and around town. By building policies, systems and environmental changes in all of these areas, the coalition hopes to reduce the rate of obesity, specifically among children, in Greenville County. Why We Do What We DoSix out of 10 adults and 4 out of 10 children are overweight or obese (26% of adults and 22% of children are obese). We know that without action, rates of chronic disease in our community will continue to impact early childhood development, academic success and workplace productivity. Past efforts to merely educate adults on leading healthier lives have not been successful. Why? It is difficult to maintain healthy lifestyles when the community does not support healthy choices. How Can I Get Involved?Make a personal commitment to live well and get involved in making your neighborhood, school or workplace or church a healthier place for everyone. LiveWell Greenville is a partnership of dozens of public and private organizations that aims to make Greenville County a healthier place to live, work, and play. Formed more than three years ago by the Piedmont Health Care Foundation, the coalition has engaged more than 100 key partners in crafting plans to create policies, systems and environments in our community to make living well easier. The YMCA of Greenville is proud to be a partner by serving as the organizational host, providing leadership and staffing, funding support, and office space.
