Program Description

The Y Teen Achievers Program is a developed curriculum focused helping its participants obtain post secondary education. The program works hand-in-hand with community professionals, who help guide and mentor teens to make sensible decisions concerning their future.This program is open to any middle or high school student in Greenville County. Achievers offers workshops and special events for its participants. 

Program Vision

To be recognized as the premier college access and readiness program for teens with a focus on the under served through dedicated and committed engagement by volunteer leaders.

Locations

Middle School Community Offsite: 

The Huddle at Sterling Community Center- Every  Monday from 4:30 p.m.-6 p.m. 

High School Community Offsite:

Judson Community Center- 2nd and 4th Wednesday from 6:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.

History

Teen Achievers, a national program through the YMCA of the USA, was started in 1967 in Houston, Texas. 

 In Greenville, we began in 2010 with 1 location. Over the past 3 years, it has grown to 5 sites serving over 300 area students. 

Program Goals

  • To expose teens to diverse career options
  • To provide teens with role models whose success and knowledge will inspire success
  • To create channels for continuing community involvement by business and industry
  • To recognize and promote achievement and excellence   

Become a Teen Achiever

Are you interested in becoming a Teen Achiever? You can either come to one of our community based off-sites (Sterling Community Center or Judson Community Center) or attend a Super Saturday or other special event! 

Volunteer

Success Coach Success Coaches will volunteer in schools to better serve our Greenville County teens. The commitment is 1.5 to 2 hours per month during the work day. The volunteer commitment is minimal but the impact is outstanding!

Special Events Volunteer Achievers holds at least one special event per month. Volunteers will help during the event. Most special events are held on weekends. 

Site Coordinator Volunteer will be responsible for weekly Achiever program and assuring that each workshop is executed with the highest quality. Volunteers will be responsible for weekly attendance reports and updates, working with staff and other volunteers in coordinating various programs, activities, workshops and events for their site. Volunteers must be dependable, hardworking, adaptable and interactive. We currently have all site coordinator positions filled, but some may open up during the 2013-2014 school year. 

Achievers Workshop Leader Facilitate a topic for weekly sessions.

Photographer Responsible for taking photos during Achiever events and updating photos on website and maintaining and updating Achiever scrapbook.
