FAQ

What ages can participate in YMCA full-day childcare and After School programming?

These programs are open to K4-8th graders.

What will my child need to bring?

For Full-Day Childcare: Please send your child’s Chromebook, paper and pencil/notebook, headphones (if needed) as well as any other academic materials provided by the school system for elearning activities. They will also need to bring a water bottle, lunch, and a morning snack (the YMCA will provide afternoon snacks). Please make sure all personal items are labeled with your child’s name. Additionally, each child will need a supply kit (download the supply list here).

For Traditional After School: Bring homework assignments, a water bottle, and supply kits (download the supply list here).

Will my child be able to complete online learning assignments during full-day childcare at the YMCA?

Yes. The YMCA will provide internet access, and space for students to complete scheduled eLearning tasks. We will also incorporate “brain breaks” throughout the day to allow students time for other activities and socialization. Our YMCA staff team will work in partnership with your family to support academic success through assistance with classwork and homework assignments, but responsibility for ensuring that homework assignments are successfully submitted by required deadlines will ultimately fall to participants’ families.

Will support be available to students who may need extra help to complete assignments?

Greenville County Schools will be providing training and resources through their Academic Department for our staff who will be supporting eLearning.

In the event that the school system makes changes in the attendance plan, how will YMCA After School programming/billing be affected?

Should the current attendance plan change, our team will communicate to registered participants about corresponding adjustments to the weekly pricing and program structure. Financial assistance will be applied accordingly to all weekly payments. Please refer to the pricing structure above for cost information.

What COVID-19 safety protocols will the YMCA have in place to promote a healthy environment?

The Y is committed to ensuring that our spaces are as safe and healthy as possible. Full-day Childcare and Traditional After School participants will have their temperatures taken and complete a health questionnaire each day upon arrival. Staff will be wearing masks. Group activities and lunchtimes will be modified to respect social distancing recommendations, and huddle groups will remain consistent (max of 11 children per huddle group), in accordance with CDC guidelines and students will be separated by age. Supplies will not be shared during enrichment activities. Participants will be asked to wash their hands frequently throughout the day. We ask that parents keep us informed if their child has potentially been exposed to the virus, begins to exhibit symptoms, or tests positive for COVID-19. During drop-off and pick-up, parents are asked to stay in their vehicles and not enter the building.

Will the YMCA provide transportation?

The YMCA will only be able to provide transportation when Greenville County Schools moves to a 5-day in-class instruction schedule. When this happens, we will communicate with registered participants to determine transportation needs.

Billing schedule & cancellation policy

Payments are due on Fridays for the upcoming week, and can be made online, at your YMCA Welcome Center, or by calling (864).412.0288. There is a 2-week notice required for cancellation. While we know many parents prefer to make payments weeks in advance, we advise that payments be made week-by-week, as pricing will fluctuate as the school system schedule changes.
