REOPENING UPDATE - MAY 8, 2020:

This afternoon, Governor Henry McMaster announced that on Monday, May 11th, a decision would be communicated regarding close-contact businesses (including gyms and health clubs) being permitted to reopen in South Carolina. Our team is working diligently to prepare our facilities and train staff, so that reopening can happen as soon as possible once the Governor lifts operating restrictions. We will communicate on Monday via email, and we'll be updating our website and social media pages to keep you informed about the next steps in our reopening plan. Thank you for your continued support. Without your partnership, the many community relief initiatives our YMCA team has helped provide during this time of crisis would not have been possible. We are grateful to you for standing with us as we have worked to weather this storm, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Y very soon.

COVID-19 FAQ's

What services are being provided by the YMCA at this time?

In addition to the critical services that the YMCA is providing to the community that were previously shared (blood drives, emergency childcare services, etc.), the YMCA is offering a wide range of digital and virtual services to the community at ymcagreenville.org.  The content is updated daily and the list continues to be expanded beyond the current offering of:

– Group Exercise Classes
– Personal Wellness Training services
– Youth Development Programs
– Nutrition & Healthy Eating education

Are membership payments continuing at this time?

The YMCA is a nonprofit charity that relies on membership dues and donations to support the majority of the work we do. Without ongoing support from YMCA members, there would be a critical gap in the vital services the Y provides to the community. While being sensitive to individual financial needs and circumstances, the YMCA respectfully requests that members continue their membership payments at this time. All membership payments made while the YMCA is closed will be recognized as tax-deductible charitable contributions to the YMCA. Even if you don’t itemize on your 2020 tax form, you can now take a deduction for up to $300 in charitable contributions under the CARES Act that was recently passed. If you are unable to continue your regular membership payments, but still want to help in some capacity, please email member services at bsc@ymcagreenville.org . Members that continue to support the YMCA in this way will receive a letter acknowledging their contribution at year-end to be used for tax purposes. The Y is a 501(c)3, nonprofit organization that exists to serve the community and we have accordingly transitioned the use of YMCA facilities and refocused our YMCA staff in an effort to meet the most critical needs in our community at this time. Thank you for partnering with us!

I have additional questions and would like to speak with a representative.

Please contact bsc@ymcagreenville.org for assistance.

Be assured, we will open our facilities just as soon as it is safe to do so, and we will notify members immediately through our website, app, social media and email. Until then, we will continue to serve you through Your Virtual Y and Flex Fit App. Your unwavering support of your YMCA is enabling us to provide vital assistance to our community during this time of crisis. Thank you!

Thank You from The Y

To Our Valued Members,

The Y has been a vital part of life in Greenville for 125 years, bringing people together, bonding our community and providing avenues for us to help each other. While social distancing may have temporarily changed the ways we interact with you, we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting you and your family and strengthening our community.

Like all of you, we are continuing to monitor the spread of COVID-19. With every difficult decision we make, we are following the best and latest guidance from the CDC and our government officials. While the current situation has necessitated that our facilities remain closed for the time being, we are working hard to continue serving you.

Your sustained membership is vital to our efforts to also serve our community during this time of crisis. While many things are uncertain, we do know that our top priority will always be your health, and the health of our community. It is core to our mission as a nonprofit community organization. That’s why we’re continuing to serve Greenville in the ways this time demands.

We've been helping deliver spirit to homeless children in Greenville County, who are living in local motels by collecting games, crafts, and supplies for them since school is out.

The Eastside Family YMCA partnered with Greer Farmers Market to support local farmers, while shoppers practiced social distancing.

We are focused on helping you maintain your health during this time by offering virtual workouts on ymcagreenville.org and our Flex Fit app. Our group exercise instructors are recording and posting your daily workouts so you can still benefit from a class experience and retain your fitness level.

Plus so much more!

We know that working together is how we stay strong and get through difficult times – it’s what we do in Greenville. You can be assured - The Y is here for good.

By continuing to invest in the Y through your membership, you’re partnering with us to provide much needed resources to those in our community. As a nonprofit, the Y relies heavily on your membership support and charitable donations so we can remain a crucial force for good in our community. Here are ways you can help us most:

  • Continue your standard membership draft to support all the Y is doing to aid our community during this time. Your membership draft will be considered a charitable donation while we are closed. You will receive a tax letter from us showing you made a deductible charitable donation to the Y.
  • Let us know if there are ways we can assist your family or if you have questions. You can email us at bsc@ymcagreenville.org, or give us a call at 864.412.0288.

We are so deeply grateful you’re a part of the YMCA of Greenville. Please continue to check our website for updates and resources. Know that I am praying for your health and the safety of your family and our entire community. We will get through this together. I look forward to seeing you back at the Y soon!
