What is the Horizons Values Conference?

The Horizons Values Conference is unlike any other YIG conference. As opposed to debating issues and bills, students are charged with discussing the challenges facing teenagers and what matters to them. Horizons is open to both middle and high school students.

When and where is the conference held?

The conference is held at YMCA Camp Greenville in Cleveland, SC in mid-May.

What do students do while at the conference?

Students spend time in small groups discussing issues and values. Each small group has 2 or 3 adult facilitators that help lead the conversation. Students also participate in a talent show, group dynamics session and an optional high ropes course.

How much is the conference?

The Youth in Government Horizons Values Conference is $185/student for high school students and $115/student for middle school students. Fees include housing, meals, and a t-shirt. Recruitment discounts are available for students that recruit new participants.

How do students participate?

Students participate in Horizons independently of their school. Interested students can contact Mary Capers Bledsoe, Executive Director, at mcbledsoe@ymcagreenville.org.
