What is MSMUN?
South Carolina YMCA Youth in Government Model United Nations is our only middle school-specific conference. Students work in small groups to represent a country of their choice. The conference provides students to learn about global issues, while also learning how to work in a team and think critically.
When and where is the conference held?
The conference is held each year in Black Mountain, NC at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly Center in early April.
What do ambassadors do at the Conference?
While at the conference, ambassadors work in small groups to represent a country. They present a proposal (written prior to the conference) and debate other student’s proposals. They also present their country at our annual Festival of Nations.
How can high school students participate in this conference?
High school students serve as resource staff for the conference. High school students work with middle school country groups to help them throughout the conference. They preside over committee and council sessions. Lastly, they help college staff and YMCA staff oversee the conference. High school resource staff members must submit an application and complete a training course prior to the conference.
How much is the conference?
The Youth in Government MSMUN conference is $205/delegate. This includes all conference materials, rooming, all meals while at the conference and a conference T-Shirt. Need-based scholarships are available.
