This year why not do something that is not only FROM the heart but also FOR the heart. Take your date, your mate, or your best friend for a spin on our brand new Indoor Cycling bikes. Cycling is fast becoming the activity of choice for people looking for a low-impact, high-intensity workout and we have just what you need to get started.

Indoor Cycling Advantages

Cycling indoors means you never have to worry about the weather or the time of day. You also won’t have to worry about flat tires and you can work out while watching TV, listening to music, or getting to know other people who share your passion for life and health. Indoor cycling also provides several health benefits:

Of course, cycling is good for your heart. The American Council on Exercise (ACE) states that cycling is a great option as a cardiovascular workout because it allows you to put out large energy expenditures with little impact on your hips, knees, and ankles. Because it is a low-impact activity, it is especially advantageous to people recovering from orthopedic injuries.

Got stress?  Try cycling to help relieve it.  The American Psychological Association says that a majority of Americans suffer from a moderate to high level of stress. Cycling greatly affects your stress levels by releasing endorphins into your system. These endorphins act to create excitement, lower stress levels and build up the immune response in your body allowing you to manage stress in a healthy way.

Build more muscle.  Muscular endurance is the body’s ability to sustain the use of your muscles over a long period allowing you to fight fatigue and sustain repetitive movement without getting tired. Cycling provides a resistance that will increase muscle endurance in the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and calf muscles of your legs.

Burns calories.  According to Bicycling.com, by pedaling a bike at 13-14mph, a person can burn approximately 500 calories an hour. If you want to get fit or simply lose a few pounds, indoor cycling can help you accomplish both while building up the muscles in your arms, back, and core.

Try a cycle class this week! All of our YMCA of Greenville classes are led by trained and certified Cycle Instructors who will help make your rides fun and your body fit. You will also benefit from our certified wellness specialists who can help you understand why exercise is good for you. Check out the cycle schedule at the front desk or online

Make this day and everyday sweat, I mean sweet.
