It can be an exciting time for many children, but for those whose parents cannot afford to buy new backpacks and school supplies, it can also be challenging. As a cause driven organization, we identify problems in our community and help to solve them. Last August, we waived the joining fee for those who brought in a new backpack for a child in need. Our members also donated backpacks because they wanted to help kids in our community. We were able to donate 270 brand new backpacks to schools across Greenville County.
This year, from August 4-19, we are bringing back the same promotion, but we’ve added school supplies to the list. Bring a new backpack or school supplies into any YMCA of Greenville branch and your joining fee is waived. You are helping a local child while making a commitment to strengthen your overall wellbeing by being a member of the Y.
It’s not too early to register your child for our after school program for elementary and middle school aged children. We believe our program is unique because of our attention to building a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Every day, children in our after school programs have homework support, participate in active play, as well as value-based programs. What makes the Y experience unique is our commitment to promote honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring in all we do. This is done through devotions, small group discussions, academic enrichment, and positive reinforcement of behaviors by great staff role models.
Once your kids are back in their routines, it’s a perfect time for you to refocus your wellness goals now that the lazy days of summer are over. There is something for everybody – no matter your level of fitness. Our Wellness Works program, a complimentary part of your membership, is a great way to jump back in, set goals and build a new routine. If you need a more intense program, we also have personal training packages for a more customized program. If classes are more your thing, we have many different styles to choose from. We meet you where you are on your wellness journey – from novice to elite athlete.
Being a member of the Y is good for your spirit, mind, and body. You can feel good knowing that your donation of a new backpack or school supplies will help a child right here in our community to have the basic tools they need to be successful. You can also feel good about managing your wellness goals well before New Year’s Resolutions come rolling around.
