Summer Camp Program Descriptions
Traditional Mountaineer Summer Camp Programs: Ages 7-15
Our traditional camping program offers one-week summer camp for kids and teens ages 7 to 15. This program includes traditional summer camp activities such as western horseback riding, arts and crafts, archery and target sports, swimming and boating, field sports plus time to enjoy the natural surroundings, and an on-camp adventure day.
Adventure Summer Camp Programs: Ages 10-15
Our Adventure Programs, Explorers (one-week and two-week camp sessions for kids ages 10 to 12) and Trekkers (one-week and two-week camp sessions for teens 13 to 15), offer an amazing choice of adventure activities.
Explorers choose two 2-day on-camp adventures (backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, adventure racing, etc.) and an off-camp exploration day. Trekkers choose one 3-day and one 2-day off-camp adventure, including backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, whitewater, caving, fly fishing, and the best of what the Carolina mountains have to offer.
Camp also has two specialty adventure camps:
Equestrian Adventure - One-week western horseback riding camp for girls or boys aged 10 to 12. This week focuses on learning to care for horses and improving western-style horseback riding skills. Campers will spend half of each day working with horses and the other half enjoying all the fun camp has to offer.
Whitewater Adventure - One-week whitewater paddling camp for boys and girls aged 13 to 15. This is a full week of water based fun for campers who want to focus on developing their paddling skills. The adventure features paddling skill progression from our lake to flat water rivers to class II and class III whitewater.
The Outback: Ages 14-17
The Outback is a two-week camp designed to challenge the older campers through a series of challenging teamwork activities. They live in their own area of Camp and prepare their own meals each day. Campers plan their own schedule which generally consists of a 5-day backpacking trip, challenge course, rock climbing, community service projects, and a solo experience.
Trailblazers: Ages 14-17
This travel camping program takes our oldest campers (ages 14 to 17) to some very special places. The Monk's Ultimate Adventure - a two-week fun-packed trip based on an old Camp Greenville tradition - taking in some of the best that the southern Appalachians (Tennessee, North Carolina and West Virginia) has to offer for touring, climbing, caving, rafting, canoeing, and backpacking.
Service Corps: Ages 15-16
Campers who have completed at least the 9th grade and are enrolled in a camp session may choose to add to their camp experience by being a member of the Service Corps and assisting in one of our support areas. This unique and inexpensive program gives students the opportunity to give back to camp through a service learning experience. Through placements in maintenance, the horse barn, dining hall, and nature center, these participants find the time to work and play. A special application and interview are required, and space is limited.
Counselor In Training (CIT): Ages 16-17
The CIT program offers a two- or three-week leadership course that is open to students who have completed at least their sophomore year in high school. As a CIT, participants are placed in cabins to get a "hands on" experience and to assist the counselors. The first week consists of an intensive training program on areas such as program planning and development, child development, vespers, child abuse recognition, behavior management, and teamwork. The second week continues the training, with more hands-on skill development in areas important to being a good camp leader. A special application and interview are required, and space is very limited.
Mom & Me/Dad & Me: Ages 5-6 with a parent/guardian
During our first week of camp in June and in August, we offer this special introductory adventure camp experience for kids 5 and 6 years old. The 4-day/3-night experience provides the opportunity for these young campers to enjoy camp with Mom or Dad in preparation for a future solo summer camp experience.
