ABOUT DIG

The Diversity, Inclusion and Global Innovation Network consists of 89 YMCAs that have made an organizational commitment to integrate diversity, inclusion and global strategies across key operational and programmatic areas to strengthen their capacity to serve diverse and underserved populations, foster community cohesion, and address social equity and inclusion issues.

The YMCA of Greenville became the 74th YMCA (out of approximately 2,700 in the country, and is the only YMCA in SC) designated to Diversity, Inclusion and Global Innovation YMCA in May 2016.

YMCA of Greenville Diversity & Inclusion Statement

By prioritizing diversity and inclusion, we seek to ensure that all segments of society have access to the YMCA and feel welcome and fully engaged as participants, members, staff and volunteers.

The Y is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life working side by side to strengthen communities. Together we work to ensure everyone, regardless of race, gender, income, faith, sexual orientation or cultural background has the opportunity to live life to its fullest.

The Y is a force for building bridges among all people as we share the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.

At the Y, ensuring that Y staff, volunteers, members, and community stakeholders know and represent the community is vital to organizational success and advancing the Y’s cause of strengthening community. When we practice inclusion, we address our society’s trends and remain relevant to them while we remain true to the YMCA mission, goals, and values.

Dimensions of Diversity

This Diversity Wheel diagram represents the various dimensions of diversity. To truly be inclusive and welcoming to all, it is critical to understand the many factors that make up and influence a person’s individuality. If we hold too narrow a view of what constitutes diversity, we will miss opportunities to effectively engage, connect and serve ALL members of our communities.
